Thank you for coming to check out my digital teaching portfolio!
My journey has been one full of fun, adventure, friends and family...but this is still just the beginning...
Hi, I'm Jy Rantall
I was born in Warrnambool Australia and grew up close to the coast where I developed a mad keen love of water (sea or lakes). I have a wonderful family who have supported and encouraged me in so many ways to follow the door that opens. My two bigger sisters have been excellent role models, I am very lucky to have them.
Throughout my life experiences, I have had many jobs, but only one career: I love primary teaching!! My Mum was a teacher and my sister is a secondary teacher, so teaching is in my blood. I completed high school and dived straight into a Bachelor of Primary Teaching, then continued on to do my first four graduate years also in Warrnambool. Having completed 18 years of schooling, I decided on a change, but I couldn't give teaching up for good; I kept up casual teaching while I could fit it in. I worked as an Employment Consultant where I assisted unemployed people into work or study. Government changes resulted in a redundancy that I took as a sign to head onto my next adventure...Outback Queensland as a governess (home tutor) for Longreach School Of Distance Education and did I have some adventures. Not one single day was the same, with 'mail plane day' being my favourite to find out what goodies I had ordered for our classroom a few weeks earlier!!
I returned back home to work on the dairy farm and returned to casual teaching but the lure to get back into my own classroom was too great! In 2016, I completed a numeracy intervention program and taught part time with 2017 bringing about the year to take on my own classroom again and some leadership duties.
The next door that opened saw me leap across the ditch and land on a sheep station in the picturesque part of the South Island in Central Otago, New Zealand. A very different world for NZ teachers, I take my hat off to them. My first NZ classroom was so very pretty...looking out across the snow capped mountains of Wanaka for a term, followed by the opportunity to teach in my new home town! A 6-minute drive from home, I have invested in a bike and endevour to take on the elements and ride to work. OH SO LUCKY!!! So many adventures to be had in my new home town.
I have many hobbies with my number ONE being Stand Up Paddle Boarding!!! This hobby has led me to design, make and market the Jungle SUP Sling.
